Our schools program has been designed to support school students gain a better understanding of the skills required to be successful in the football industry and assist with decision making about their career post school.

School Program

  • Our school program is derived from our Certificate in the Business of Australian Football Course and is crafted to compliment the efforts of school career services.

  • The course aims to inspire students in their career exploration, support their professional growth and broaden the students’ awareness of potential career paths in sport.

  • Our course contains 5 fully self-paced modules, allowing students to progress at their own speed. Teachers can also incorporate the content into their curriculum, providing flexible support to enhance learning outcomes.

  • Completing the course content will give the student a broad set of skills and knowledge about the business of Australian football.

Content Outline

  • Discover the foundational concepts of recruiting in sports, focusing on the role of talent identification. This module will introduce you to the basics of how recruiters identify potential players and the impact of effective recruiting on a team’s success.

  • This module provides a deep dive into the core principles of list management, essential for building a successful football team. You'll begin with an introduction to the role of a list manager, exploring the strategic and governance aspects that guide decision-making in this critical area. The curriculum covers key topics such as drafting strategy, balancing needs versus talent, and managing Total Player Payments.

  • In this module, you'll delve into the critical aspects of managing and leading a football department. Beginning with an introduction to football management, you'll explore the strategic foundations necessary for success, including football strategy, list management, and the integration of high-performance and medical programs. The course covers the essential elements of coaching, football operations, and player well-being, ensuring a holistic understanding of department leadership.

  • This module is designed for those aspiring to excel in the dynamic world of player representation. You'll start with an introduction to the role of a player agent, exploring the rules, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements (CBA) that govern the profession. The module dives into the recruiting process, list management, and Total Player Payments, providing a strong foundation in the essentials of player management.

  • As you wrap up your learning journey, Module 5 focuses on reflecting on the key takeaways from the course and preparing for your next steps in the industry. This module includes a comprehensive reflection exercise, allowing you to consolidate and apply the knowledge gained throughout the course.

    You'll be congratulated on your completion of the Certificate in the Business of Australian Football, with all course slides available for review. To further support your career, you'll participate in a Q&A session focused on navigating career opportunities in the industry. Additional resources are provided to help you continue your professional development. Brad Lloyd

Experienced AFL administrator & course instructor

Brad is an experienced sports administrator in the AFL industry, spanning over 20 years of experience as an AFL Player Agent, Recruiting Manager, List Manager and currently General Manager of Football with the Carlton Football Club. Brad in his role as General Manager of Football represents the football department on the club executive team including both the Mens and Womens football programs. Brad’s role and expertise provides strategic direction and leadership for both programs. His role oversees key functions of the football department including List Management, High Performance, Medical, Coaching, Operations and Wellbeing. Brad has completed both a Bachelors Degree and an MBA at Victoria University. He has also completed executive business programs in Negotiation and Leadership at Harvard Business School.
